A major strength of the University of New York in Prague is its highly qualified international teaching faculty, who are committed to teaching, research, academic advising, and continued intellectual growth. UNYP’s internationally diverse lecturers bring a broad range of experience and expertise into the classrooms. All emphasize a dynamic, interactive teaching style. Today over 120 faculty are with UNYP.  The majority of faculty have a Ph.D or are a Ph.D. candidate, and the majority are native English speakers.

UNYP’s faculty come from over 30 countries. Most are from the U.S. (38%), Czech Republic (35%) and the U.K. (16%). They have experience in living, working, and teaching around the world. Some faculty also teach at other Prague-based universities such as Charles University, Prague University of Economics, and Czech Technical University.

Credit system

UNYP uses ECTS and the American semester credit system in parallel, with one semester credit equal to two ECTS. UNYP uses an American system due to its history and current provision of multiple-degree programs in cooperation with State University of New York, Empire State College.

The credit system is grounded in the ECTS system, with 60 ECTS per semester as the standard allocation.

One semester credit (2 ECTS) corresponds to 50 to 60 hours of work. This represents the typical workload; the actual time each student requires to achieve the course’s outcomes may vary.

Learning outcomes and workload estimates are included on course syllabi. Student estimates of workload are part the Student Evaluation of Instruction. UNYP regularly reviews credit allocations and the workload estimates of instructors and students each year, and provides feedback to instructors and/or adjusts credit allocations as needed.

For more information on UNYP’s credit systems, please see UNYP Policies.
